The Monks Walking for Peace passed through Richmond on 2/2
This was day 100 of their Peace Walk. There was a Peace Gathering near the City Hall where the headmonk, Bhikkhu Paññakara, spoke. Many of our sangha members attended,or walked with the monks through the city. It was a memorable gathering. The monks continue their walk up to DC. Marjolein, our guiding teacher, offered a talk on the Monks Walking for Peace recently during the Tuesday Sit. Listen to the talk here.

IMCR is now on Meetup – You can find our page here: Insight Meditation Community of Richmond on Meetup

What is Insight Meditation?

Insight meditation, also known as Vipassana or mindfulness meditation, is a type of meditation that is practiced with the goal of gaining insight into the nature of reality. The practice involves focusing one’s attention on the present moment in order to develop a deeper understanding of the mind and emotions.

The Buddha emphasized the importance of investigating one’s own direct experience. By observing the body and mind, we can begin to recognize patterns that influence our everyday life. This understanding helps us gain insight into what leads to suffering and what leads to happiness.

About IMCR

We are a twice weekly gathering of diverse individuals who practice meditation and study the teachings of the Buddha according to the Theravada school of Buddhism, the traditional Buddhism of Southern and Southeast Asia. IMCR, under the name The Vipassana Group, first met at Ekoji in November 1994, and began weekly Friday meetings on March 3, 1995.

Newcomers are welcome and encouraged to attend, regardless of their meditation experience, religious background or affiliation, or those with no religious affiliation.
